Preparing for your Level 2 Wheel Series experience
Preparing for Level 2 Wheel
We’re so excited to have you back in the studio. Level 2 Wheel is designed for students who are ready to build more control and begin throwing with intention.
At this stage, the focus shifts from exploration to refinement. You’ll start thinking about proportion, scale, and consistency before your hands even touch the clay.
What to Bring
Just yourself. We provide your choice of 25 pounds of Standard 306 or Laguna B Mix, along with all tools and materials needed for class.
Aprons and towels are available, but you’re welcome to bring your own.
What to Expect
This series is about building control and making more intentional decisions in your work. You’ll spend more time refining forms rather than simply creating them.
You’ll work with larger amounts of clay, throw taller and more complex forms, and begin developing consistency across your pieces. Demonstrations and feedback will focus on proportion, balance, and refinement.
Handle work becomes more deliberate, with attention to both function and form. You’ll also continue developing trimming skills with greater precision and begin making more thoughtful glaze choices that support your forms.
Some pieces will still not make it through the process. The difference is that you’ll better understand why—and how to adjust.
Your Work
You’ll create and refine multiple pieces throughout the series, focusing on consistency and intentional form.
Because ceramics is a multi-step process, pieces may develop small imperfections or, in some cases, not make it through firing. This is a normal part of working with clay.
Finished work will be ready for pickup after the final firing and glazing process.
Open Sessions
This series includes two open sessions. These can be used to make up a missed class or to practice outside of class time. Open sessions are self-guided and do not include instruction, but staff are available for general support. Your instructor will share more details about open sessions during your first week of class.
